Children’s Librarian’s Blog

In my Introduction to Library Science course, the professor brings in people who have different types of jobs in Library Science. The latest speaker (last week), was a children’s librarian in a public library.

She told us about how she does story time and how she interacts with the children. images

It was a really fascinating lesson, and I am not even thinking of working with children. We learned about felt boards, grandpas-farm-with-CDstories using sign language, stories using hand motions, storytelling as an art and songs for children.

One of the things that I found quite interesting was when she told us about her story time log. After each story time, she writes down what she did, how many kids were there, how they responded, how she felt it went and ideas for improvement. The cool thing wasn’t that she wrote this all down. The cool thing is she wrote it all down on a blog. She took the blog out of the public domain after she realized that people she knew were reading it and knew she was writing it, but still. She used a blog to record her story time log.

Now that is a great way to use a web 2.0 tool in the library.
