Skype

Skype is one of the best tools of Web 2.0 for my family. I have one sibling living in Israel and another living in Baltimore. With the use of Skype I can talk to them every day if I want to. My Mom can speak to her children. Even more than that, my Dad, who does not use technology comfortably, uses Skype.

For those who do not know, Skype is a calling system through which users can talk to and see the people that they are speaking with. To use Skype, users need a WebCam and internet access. Skype is a tool that people of all ages can use to communicate with friends and family from all parts of the world. It is free and easy to use. It also has settings so that users must confirm people to allow them to contact them through Skype. Users can also block people that they do not wish to speak with.

There are only two negative aspects of Skype that I am aware of. The first is not directly a Skype problem. When using Skype, with most webcams, users need to be careful of a few things. Moving too quickly results in a blocky unclear picture. Poor lighting is another problem as it results in either a too bright picture that is all white, or a too dim picture that is gray or black. The second problem is that the blocking setting is needed, I have received many messages from people that I do not know. I have blocked all of them, and they have not contacted me again.

Overall, I think Skype is a great tool. I use it all the time. I would recommend the use of Skype to anyone. Skype.com tells you all you need to know, and allows you to download Skype free.
