The Jungle Book

Disney just released a new trailer for the new upcoming movie The Jungle Book. This remake of the 1967 animated film is a live action version like many of the recent Disney film remakes. It was filmed entirely with a green screen. The trailers looks really good and the cast is amazing.

I was curious how true to the book this film will be so I looked around to see if anyone had discussed this with the animated film. I found this great side by side comparison at Disneyfied or Disney Tried, a cool blog that compares Disney films with the stories that inspired them. In the case of the animated film it differed significantly from the original story as most Disney adaptations do.

So the question remains. Will the new film follow the path of the animated film or the original story? Or will it forge a new path all it’s own. Much of the trailer seems to indicate that it will follow the animated film but it’s hard to tell for sure. I can’t wait to find out, just have to wait until April 15, 2016.

Interestingly enough, I just discovered that Warner Bros. is doing an adaptation of Kipling’s Jungle Book as well titled Jungle Book: Origins and scheduled for release in October 6, 2017. As with the Disney film, it has an incredible all star cast. So this will be interesting. Two new Jungle Book films for us to enjoy. It should be fun!

  1. I have to admit, I just feel like the concept of live action animals with dubbed in human voices weirds me out! I don’t know if I’ll get used to Christopher Walken’s voice coming out of an orangutan, lol.
