Aladdin the Musical

Wednesday night was different, all of our plans worked. A went to sleep beautifully, dinner was quick and easy, and the babysitter arrived on time. On Wednesday night, N and I headed to the broadway show, Aladdin the Musical.

The show is located in the beautiful New Amsterdam Theatre, which was conveniently a 5 minute walk from our hotel. The theatre itself is stunning, the walls are covered in intricate carvings and the halls are filled with pictures of shows that have taken place in the theatre over the past hundred years or so. After the show we took some pictures of the theatre and took a closer look at the stage and the orchestra pit.

The show was absolutely fantastic! We were thrilled to be able to see the original cast together before the tour starts. This was also N’s first time seeing a show on Broadway so it was really special. What made it even better was that it was one of our favorite Disney stories. The singing, dancing and jokes were great. All of the changes made to adapt the tale for Broadway were very well done and nods were given several times to the movie version. The magic was definitely  there and the carpet especially was so well done that N and I (and according to Google, the world at large) is stunned by the stage magic that makes the carpet truly appear to fly. No one yet has a good theory as to how that particular trick is done.

The show started at 7pm and ran for 2 and a 1/2 hours. There was a 15 minute intermission during which N and I went to the bathroom, got drinks and checked out the souvenir stand. Our drinks came in adorable souvenir cups!

There were a lot of souvenirs that looked really good to us but we had to narrow it down so that we wouldn’t go too crazy. So we ended up getting three things, the Playbill, which came with a tote, a set of Tea glasses, and a Fleece Throw. A few nights later we enjoyed a rewatch of the Disney movie and snuggled under our new fleece throw, while enjoying some tea in our new glasses.
