Chanukah Gifts

As you may remember from my post last year, and the year before, N and I have a tradition. I give him one gift for each of the 8 days of Chanukah. This is one of my favorite times of the year firstly because of the holiday, and secondly because I love buying fun gifts for N and watching his delight as he opens them.

  • Night #1 – Sanaa Bread Set

This gift was a bit tricky to get. It is an item for sale at Johari Treasures, a store in the Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World. We have stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) twice now, posts about our stay are here and here, and it is so far our favorite resort. The food offerings at AKL are a mix of Indian and African cuisine and are known as some of the best in all of Disney World.

N and I are also huge fans of Indian Food which, as kosher eaters, is quite hard to come by. While there are kosher Indian restaurants, there are none where we live, the closest one is around 4 hours away, so not somewhere we can easily go. N and I are really sad that AKL doesn’t have any kosher options, the food there always smells and looks so amazing, we really wish we could partake.

When N told me about this bread set, which is one of the most famous and popular appetizers from Sanaa, one of the main restaurants at AKL, I knew I had to get it. I am so happy that I can give it to N. Especially this year, as we will not be going to Disney World in 2019. This will be our bit of Disney for the year.

  • Night #2 – Serenity Graphic Novel

serenity 1

N and I love Firefly and I just recently found out that they continued the sadly way too short show (canceled after one season, followed by a great movie), in a graphic novel series! I heard that it is quite good and am very excited to see what N thinks (and read it after he is done, bonus!).

  • Night #3 – Bedside Carafe

Two years ago, I gave N a beautiful, glass, bedside carafe, which he loved. Until I knocked it off the night table by accident. It broke, of course. I was super sad about that as was N. But this year I found a carafe that is made of acrylic instead of glass and is supposed to be much more sturdy. Here is hoping!

  • Night #4 – Star Trek Key Chain and Weight

N’s favorite is Star Trek. As with most of the keychains that I buy N sadly, they don’t last. So I purchase them again for him as needed every year or two.

The weight is a highly recommended method for keeping items submerged for Sous Vide cooking.

  • Night #5 – Vac Stand

This is another Sous Vide cooking tool. As you may know, N is a big user of Sous Vide cooking and we often find that bagging items can be cumbersome and annoying. This is supposed to be a really handy tool for holding the bags so that you can bag items with as much ease as possible.

  • Night #6 – Mottainai Mini Card Game

game

N and I are big fans of board games and we have a nice collection. I like to add a game to our collection every year, especially if it plays well with two players. This game came highly recommended and N and I enjoyed playing it with a friend a few years back.

  • Night #7 – Trivets

My parents took me to a craft fair when it came to town a month ago. I saw a few things but nothing that really struck me. But when my parents saw these multi use trivets they thought N would love them. I was super excited to give him something beautiful, different, and multi purpose.

  • Night #8 – Serenity Graphic Novel and Wood Oil

This is the second book in the Serenity Graphic Novel Series.

For our wood anniversary (5 years!) this past summer, I got N a good solid wood cutting board. He has been using it heavily lately (especially for Thanksgiving) and expressed concern that he may mess up its condition. So I hope this wood oil will fix it up, and keep it nice for a longer time.

  • Day #9 – Star Trek Keychains

The Star Trek keychains are as mentioned above a tradition for us as Star Trek is N’s favorite. I hope that since these are not shaped like a ship and therefore don’t have little parts that they will last longer. But they still have the distinctive Star Trek logo. I got two so we could each put one on our keychains, we only use one car now so we generally use our car keys interchangeably. This way N can pick one color for “his” keys and one for “mine” and has some Star Trek fun with him no matter which keys he uses.
