Hungry Harvest

As you know, in January we started the Mediterranean diet which focuses highly on whole grains, fresh vegetables, fruit, and fresh, mostly homemade food. We have been loving it! The addition of our June oven, more here, really gave us such a great and delicious way to enjoy fresh vegetables.

So N and I decided to subscribe to a subscription box that delivers seasonal fresh fruits and vegetable each week. We found Hungry Harvest. After five weeks of receiving it, I wanted to share a review with you.

This service is fantastic! Every week a box full of fresh produce arrives on our doorstep. These are items that have been rejected from grocery stores for various reasons such as an overabundance of the item or not looking perfect enough to sell in stores. Perfectly good produce that would otherwise go to waste. So this service rescues the produce and passes it on to the consumer at a discount.

The prices are great and the produce is excellent. The varied produce gives us the chance to change things up and enjoy the produce we love while experimenting with new types, or new produce entirely. We’ve received different types of mangoes, which were all good, but one of which, the honey mango, we had never had before. We also received Kohlrabi, which we weren’t even sure how to prepare.

Hungry Harvest provides options for a range of box sizes, we get the Full Harvest, which is enough for 4-5 people. They also provide boxes with only vegetables, only fruit, a mix, or organic. We get the mix. With your first order, you also get a booklet that lists how best to store each type of produce so that they last as long as possible.

Every area has a different day of delivery that cannot be customized, our day of delivery is Saturday. Every week three days before your scheduled delivery, so in our case, Wednesday, your customization window opens. This allows you to see what you will get that week and to change the order if desired. During this time you can also add to the box other items that are available.

Along with an email reminding you that your customization window has opened, you receive a weekly email summary of your box with an explanation for each item and why it needed to be rescued.

We really love this service! I would highly recommend it. If you’d like to check it out you can get a $5 discount by following this link.
