The other night N and I made the second meal from JChef, Garlic and Shallot Steak with Arugula Salad with Dried Cranberries and Cashews.

We started out with our protein:

Strip Steak

We opened up the meal bag to find:

1 bag of Arugula

1 Shallot

2 Garlic cloves

1 container of Red Wine Vinegar

1 bag of Craisins

1 bag of Cashews

1 bag of Sugar

The ingredients were in great condition. The arugula had desiccant packets in with it to keep it fresh as well as a notice on the recipe that unlike all of the other ingredients, the arugula was not checked yet so it would stay fresh longer.

This worked really well, it was very fresh.

Ingredient Freshness: A

The meal didn’t require any fancy techniques.

Ease of Cooking: A

It was a very easy recipe taking approximately 20 minutes.

Speed of Cooking: A

The recipe instructions were clear and easy to follow.

Recipe Instruction: A

This recipe was very tasty and we both enjoyed it. N had an issue with the arugula salad as arugula is quite a bitter green. For that reason we don’t usually use arugula as a base for a salad but more as an accent. I thought it was nice but I like bitter tastes more than N does. The steak was absolutely delicious! Excellent quality and so fresh and flavorful. The crunchy onion and garlic topping was perfect to accentuate the delicious meat flavor.

Again, N and I were a little hungry after this meal. We didn’t supplement the meal with anything and were both fine but once again we wished it had come with a starch to really balance it out and make sure we were full. This time we felt a bit foolish that we didn’t just add a potato of our own to fully balance out the meal.

Filling: B

The meal looked pretty close to the picture.

Looks like the Recipe: A

All of the ingredients are easily findable. I just hope we can find meat that is as good quality as this meat was. I would also replace the arugula in the salad with romaine for N. And as I said above, I would add a starch. Just like last time, the meal really did not seem complete as it was.

Remake ability: A

Overall we were very happy with this meal.

Overall Grade: B

Note: Salt and pepper and Olive Oil were not included in this meal kit so we used our own.
